First Nation leaders in Ontario renew calls for the disbandment of the Thunder Bay Police Services amidst growing allegations of systemic racism within the force. The Thunder Bay police's former leadership faces charges in a widening misconduct investigation, and several reports since 2018 have documented systemic racism, tainting investigations into the sudden deaths of Indigenous people. Thirteen investigations have been so poorly handled they needed to be reinvestigated. The Ontario Provincial Police announced criminal charges against the former Thunder Bay police chief and another high-ranking member earlier this month.
