Shelly Cullen, a New Zealand scammer, was convicted over a $17m cryptocurrency pyramid scheme called Lion's Share. She promoted the scheme to Māori and Pasifika communities in New Zealand between 2020 and 2021, with 83% of participants losing their money. The Commerce Commission warned about the increasing sophistication of pyramid schemes, which use social media and cryptocurrencies to appear legitimate.
