2nd Lt. John E. McLauchlen Jr.'s remains, an Army Air Forces pilot from WWII, were identified 80 years after his death during a bombing mission in Myanmar.
80 years after his death during a WWII bombing mission, the remains of 2nd Lt. John E. McLauchlen Jr., an Army Air Forces pilot from Michigan, have been identified. McLauchlen, 25, piloted a B-24J Liberator bomber in a December 1, 1943 mission targeting a railroad yard in Myanmar. His plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire, causing its left wing to catch fire, and was later declared missing in action. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency identified McLauchlen's remains in January and will bury him this summer at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.
