Luminar Technologies has begun production of its lidar sensors for Volvo's EX90 electric vehicles, marking the first global use of lidar technology in consumer vehicles for safety and self-driving features. The company has also unveiled its next-generation lidar sensor, Halo, designed for mainstream adoption in affordable vehicles at half the cost of its current system. Luminar aims to democratize lidar technology and improve safety on as many vehicles as possible.
