Mexico-based Indian scientist Ravi Prakash Singh, head of Global Wheat Improvement at CIMMYT, has been awarded the Padma Shri for making wheat strains resistant to rust diseases. His efforts have helped protect the global wheat supply, a crucial dietary element. Singh has contributed to the development of 649 wheat varieties released in 48 countries, with 224 developed directly under his leadership and grown on approximately 10 million hectares.
