Home Assistant, an open-source smart home platform, has created the Open Home Foundation, a non-profit organization to protect against surveillance capitalism, buyouts, and abandonment. The foundation will support projects financially, collaborate on related projects, and advocate for data privacy, choice in device usage, and sustainability. Home Assistant aims to compete with smart home brands like Amazon, Google, Apple, and Samsung.
