Maui County officials have disputed some details in the Hawaii Attorney General's report on the deadly August wildfire. The Hawaiʻi Supreme Court ruled that the state "acted in bad faith" when it used the Lahaina fires as a reason to increase East Maui water flows. The court found that the Board of Land and Natural Resources tried to leverage the wildfire tragedy to advance its interests and has ordered the attorney general's office to pay attorney fees.
