Canada plans to establish a national plastics registry for tracking plastic production, with initial focus on packaging, electronics, and single-use plastics.
Canada plans to introduce a national plastics registry to track plastic production, as announced by Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault. The registry will make companies responsible for reporting the amount and type of plastic they produce and where it ends up, helping to increase transparency and build a circular economy. The Canadian registry will initially apply to companies producing plastic packaging, electronics, and single-use plastic products, with plans to expand to cover producers of agricultural products, tires, and resins.
