Bank of Japan (BOJ) Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that if trend inflation accelerates toward the 2% target, the central bank will raise interest rates. However, Ueda clarified that the BOJ has no preconceived timing or pace for rate hikes. The comments came ahead of the BOJ's policy meeting, where it is expected to maintain ultra-loose monetary policy as trend inflation remains below the target.
