66-year-old Geraldine O'Donnell, a mother of five, won her unfair dismissal case after being fired for allegedly stealing a €1.75 pair of used children's socks from a waste area in a Limerick City community centre. O'Donnell, a SIPTU member who had worked in various community centres for over 30 years, admitted to taking the socks but was dismissed after a flawed investigation process. The Workplace Relations Commission awarded her €15,000.
