50-year-old Fabio Cannavaro, former Italy captain and World Cup winner, has been appointed as Udinese's head coach, signing a short-term contract until the end of the season. Cannavaro replaces Gabriele Cioffi, who was dismissed after Udinese's 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona left them one spot above the relegation zone. Cannavaro's brother Paolo will serve as his number one assistant.
