A pump-action shotgun seized by Garda in 2009 and supposed to be securely stored as evidence was found in the hands of organised criminals after it was seized a second time during another operation. A criminal investigation is underway to discover how the gun was lost from Garda custody. This incident has raised concerns within senior Garda management, leading to a report being sent to the Minister for Justice and the Policing Authority.
