Nigerian government plans to launch 5,500 CNG vehicles, including buses and tricycles, by May 29 for cheaper, safer, and eco-friendly mass transit.

The Nigerian government plans to launch the first set of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles, including buses and tricycles, before the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu's administration on May 29. The Presidential CNG Initiative was launched in October 2023 following the removal of fuel subsidies. With funds from the government's palliative budget, the initiative aims to provide cheaper, safer, and more environmentally friendly energy through the use of CNG, particularly for mass transit. A total of 5,500 CNG vehicles, 100 electric buses, and over 20,000 CNG conversion kits are being funded, along with the development of CNG refilling stations and electric charging stations.
