EU opens formal proceedings against TikTok, demanding a risk assessment for its Lite rewards program.

The European Union (EU) has opened formal proceedings against TikTok, demanding the app provide more information about its new TikTok Lite rewards program. The EU's executive commission expressed concern that the app, which lets users earn rewards by watching videos and liking content, was launched without a full risk assessment. If TikTok fails to provide a satisfactory risk assessment report or fails to submit other requested information by May 3, the EU may suspend the app's rewards program in the EU pending a safety assessment.
