Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Cambodia to affirm ties and continue Beijing's investment in its Southeast Asian ally.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Cambodia for a three-day official trip, affirming ties between Beijing and Cambodia, its closest ally in Southeast Asia. Wang's visit is the last leg of a three-nation regional tour that also included Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Critics allege that Beijing's investment in Cambodia's infrastructure and private projects may aid China's strategic military interests in Southeast Asia. Cambodia's foreign debt is over 40% owed to China. Wang is scheduled to meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his father, Hun Sen, who now serves as president of the Senate.
