50 women in Manhattan's lower half have been randomly attacked by strangers this year, 37 on the street and 13 in the transit system. The majority of attackers appear to be homeless with mental health issues. Arrests have been made in 14 cases. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny reports a 12.8% decrease in random attacks compared to 2023, and welcomes increased reporting via social media.
