Ombudsman orders graft charges against former BFAR directors for allegedly violating RA 3019 in a P2.1B vessel monitoring system procurement deal.

The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered graft charges against former BFAR director Eduardo Gongona and national director Demosthenes Escoto for allegedly violating RA 3019, the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, in a P2.1B vessel monitoring system procurement deal. The charges stem from a complaint filed by lawyer James Mier Victoriano, alleging an anomaly in the procurement process for VMS transceivers. The Ombudsman stated that the officials "apparently schemed to ultimately award a contract to SRT-UK that is disadvantageous to the government."
