Indian Army advances development of indigenous Very Short Range Air Defence Systems worth over Rs 6,800 crore.
The Indian Army is progressing two cases worth over Rs 6,800 crore for developing indigenous Very Short Range Air Defence Systems to counter aerial threats on China and Pakistan borders. The Army plans to develop and buy over 500 launchers and around 3,000 missiles from domestic routes. This move comes as the Indian Army and Air Force currently have VSHORAD missiles with IR homing guidance systems, with the Igla 1M VSHORAD missile system, inducted in 1989, scheduled for de-induction in 2013.
