Malaysia's longest-serving Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, passed away at 85 due to kidney disease. Serving for 20 years, he implemented significant changes within the police force, directed multiple intelligence operations, and focused on countering the communist threat. Hanif, who became IGP at 35, also founded the elite Special Action Unit and played a central role in the AIA building hostage crisis rescue operation.
