The murder suspect, who was a Santa Maria resident at the time of the crime, was taken into custody on a murder warrant. Ofelia Sandoval, 30, was killed in 1988 at the Town Center Hotel, which was later demolished in a 2013 fire. Detectives have continued to work on the case, and James may be responsible for other unreported crimes.
