28-year-old British gamer Robert Walker-McDaid avoided jail time for making a hoax call to a terrorist hotline about his rival, Tyran Dobbs, in 2015. The call prompted a US SWAT team to be dispatched, resulting in Dobbs being shot in the face and chest. Walker-McDaid, the first UK individual charged with "swatting," was handed a 20-month suspended sentence at Warwick Crown Court after pleading guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice.
