21-year human activities around Antarctica weakened the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) by 12%, causing North Atlantic sea-level rise.

A study in Nature Geoscience reveals that human activities around Antarctica are contributing to sea level rise in the North Atlantic. Over two decades, these activities weakened the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) by 12%, causing deep ocean water warming and increased abyssal ocean heat content. The warming and heat content increase local sea-level rise due to water thermal expansion.
