Workplace Relations Commission in Ireland awards €30,000 to former Ministerial Driver Trevor Shaw for unfair dismissal.

The Workplace Relations Commission in Ireland has awarded €30,000 to former Ministerial Driver, Trevor Shaw, for unfair dismissal. Shaw was let go on Christmas Day to make way for a Garda to replace him on security grounds. The Department of Agriculture's handling of the matter was described as a "fiasco" and a "sham redundancy" by Shaw's solicitors. The Department of Agriculture "acted wholly unreasonably" and "peremptorily" without any consultation process on alternatives to redundancy.
