WHO issues global alert on Johnson & Johnson contaminated children's cough syrup linked to over 300 child deaths.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to issue a global alert about contaminated children's cough syrup produced by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) after detecting tainted batches in Nigeria. A specific batch of Benylin syrup was recalled due to high levels of diethylene glycol, linked to over 300 child deaths across several countries since 2022. WHO aims to raise vigilance among national authorities, while Kenvue Inc., which acquired the Johnson & Johnson brand, is conducting an independent assessment and working with health authorities to determine appropriate measures.
