UK's health-related benefits bill for working age individuals estimated to rise £28bn by 2028, citing IFS report; 4.2M to 5M claiming benefits.
The UK's health-related benefits bill for working age individuals is projected to increase by £28bn in the next five years, according to a report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS). The think tank noted that the number of working age individuals claiming at least one health-related benefit may rise to 5 million by 2028, up from 4.2 million in 2019. The surge in illness since the pandemic struck is not showing signs of reversing, with an alarming increase in mental health issues among young people.
