The shipping industry has urged the UN to protect vessels amid increasing attacks in the Middle East, particularly after Iran's recent seizure of container ship MSC Aries. In a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the world's leading shipping industry associations called for the UN to remind member states of their responsibilities under international law, requesting enhanced military presence, patrols and missions in the area to safeguard seafarers. The industry also asked for efforts to be made to release the MSC Aries's crew.
