Queensland's forensic DNA lab faces a backlog of over 41,000 cases, prompting calls for a strategy to address the issue from the state's opposition. Forensic Science Queensland has faced scrutiny over DNA testing issues, including a 2007-2016 automated DNA extraction method, Project 13, which yielded up to 92% less DNA than the manual technique. The backlog has grown from a previously identified 37,000 cases needing re-testing to now 41,077.
