Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signs legislation (HF 2586) allowing trained school staff to carry firearms on school grounds.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation, House File 2586, allowing trained school staff to carry firearms on school grounds. The new permitting process requires employees to pass an annual background check and complete a firearms safety course, legal training on issues like qualified immunity, and annual communication and emergency medical trainings, plus quarterly live firearms training. The law does not require school districts to arm staff but provides requirements for those that choose to do so.
