Canadian PM Justin Trudeau appointed Inuvialuit-Gwich'in Elder Gerald W. (Gerry) Kisoun as the next Commissioner of Northwest Territories for a 5-year term. Kisoun, with 25 years in RCMP and 17 in Parks Canada, previously served as Deputy Commissioner from 2011-2017. His responsibilities include swearing in Members of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council, and providing assent for passed legislation. Outgoing Commissioner Margaret Thom was thanked by Trudeau for her service.
