21 suspected leaks detected in Borders and East Lothian by trained dogs for Scottish Water.
Scottish Water has used trained dogs to detect 21 suspected leaks in rural areas of Borders and East Lothian. The specially trained dogs, including springer spaniels and a Labrador-cocker spaniel cross, were trained by ex-military handlers to detect the smell of chlorine in treated water. Twelve of the leaks found were repaired or planned for repair. Scottish Water plans to employ the dogs in other rural areas of Scotland in the future.
