24.6 million children in Nigeria, aged 5-17, are involved in child labour, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The 'Nigeria Child Labour Survey 2022' revealed that 39.2% of the child population is trapped in child labour, with 30% of child workers found in urban settings and 44.8% in rural areas. The report, which was conducted in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), showed that 24,673,485 children were engaged in child labour, with 14,390,353 (22.9%) of them involved in hazardous work.
