Italian court dismisses charges against migrant rescue ship crew after a seven-year case.
An Italian court has dismissed charges against crew members of migrant rescue ships, ending a seven-year case in which they were accused of colluding with traffickers. The crew of the Iuventa, run by German NGO Jugend Rettet, were cleared after a Sicilian court followed the prosecutor's recommendation to drop all charges. The case, which marked the longest, most expensive, and extensive proceedings against SAR (Search and Rescue) NGOs, involved over 40 hearings. Rights groups have criticized the case as politically motivated.
