British Columbia to limit short-term rental units to within principal homes, effective May 1, 2024.
British Columbia Premier David Eby announced on April 18 that new rules limiting short-term rental units to within the principal home of a host will go into effect on May 1, 2024. The government aims to reduce the number of entire homes listed as short-term rentals, with more than 19,000 such homes currently listed. The new regulations will apply to over 60 BC communities, with Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon stating that a compliance enforcement unit will be phased in to assist municipalities.
