Baby and teenage great white sharks prefer shallow waters near shore for predator avoidance and growth.
Researchers have discovered that baby and teenage great white sharks prefer shallow waters, staying close to the shore to avoid predators and support growth. According to a study conducted by marine scientists from California State University, young sharks gather in "nurseries" around 1 km from the coast in waters up to 10 m deep and with temperatures between 16 and 22°C. This behavior may help protect the public from unwanted encounters with sharks.
