Australian government publishes biosecurity protection levy breakdown, with grain, livestock, dairy, and vegetable industries bearing the majority.
The Australian government has published individual commodity payment breakdowns for the biosecurity protection levy, showing that grain, livestock, dairy, and vegetable industries will bear the majority of the burden. Grains alone are to pay $12.25 million or 23% of the total $51.8 million annual collection from farmers based on the 2019-20 to 2021-22 average gross value of production. The levy is set to begin operation on July 1, and a Senate Inquiry is scheduled to investigate the Agriculture (Biosecurity Protection) Levies Bill 2024 and related bills.
