Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown initiated a high-powered roundtable to position Auckland as a vital air and freight hub between Asia and South America. The plan aims to boost e-commerce trade, tourism, education, and mediation services, benefiting New Zealand's economy. The idea has been long-standing, and a direct Auckland-São Paulo flight could bring in $100m in trade in the first year and up to $5b in annual GDP benefits over time. The Mayor also seeks direct flights to India.
