Alabama will purchase Foley Beach Express Bridge for $57 million, making it toll-free starting May.
Alabama is set to eliminate tolls on the Foley Beach Express Bridge, providing an alternate route to state beaches. Governor Kay Ivey and the mayors of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach announced an agreement for the Alabama Department of Transportation to purchase the bridge from the Baldwin County Bridge Company for $57 million. The bridge will become toll-free once the deal closes in May, which is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Alabama is also building another bridge across the Intracoastal Waterway, set to be completed in 2026, converting each bridge to one-way crossings.
