Two-time world champion Kento Momota announced his retirement from international badminton at age 29 due to the lasting effects of a serious car crash in 2020. Momota, who was once badminton's undisputed king, winning 11 titles in 2019, suffered double vision after the accident and has not regained his previous form. Momota will play for Japan for the last time at the Thomas Cup in China before retiring.
