26-year-old Girish from Hassan district drowned at Malpe Beach in Udupi district on April 18, after he and two friends entered the sea for a swim and were caught in an undercurrent. Two other friends were rescued by lifeguards and brought to a nearby hospital, but Girish died before reaching the hospital. The group of 20 tourists from Hassan had visited Sringeri and Agumbe before visiting Malpe Beach.
