South Africa's Basic Education Department admits to over 31,000 unfilled teaching positions across the country, despite thousands of qualified teachers being unemployed. Minister Angie Motshekga revealed in a parliamentary reply that KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape have the highest number of vacancies. To address immediate challenges, schools are allowed to appoint temporary teachers.
