Kelowna RCMP officer under investigation for allegedly negligent wellness check in January 2024.
A Kelowna RCMP officer is under scrutiny for allegedly failing to adequately carry out a wellness check in January 2024, potentially crossing the threshold for criminal negligence. The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia reports that the officer did not properly fulfill their sworn duty to protect life during a check on an extremely ill individual in an apartment building, following an out-of-province call requesting the check. The IIO is continuing its investigation.
