Type 2 diabetes is genetically linked to breast, bowel and pancreatic cancer, according to a new study which shows how genetic variants can affect multiple health conditions. The study, funded by Diabetes UK, highlights the increased risk of these cancers for people with type 2 diabetes, and could lead to new prevention methods. The research, which has yet to be peer-reviewed, is being presented at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference in London.
