Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development suspends mining activities at Obafemi Awolowo University due to suspected illegal mining.

Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has suspended all mining activities at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State due to suspected illegal mining. The suspension follows reports of unauthorized mining activities, which pose a threat to the safety and well-being of students and staff at the institution. The suspension will remain in place until thorough investigations are completed, and the ministry aims to verify the authenticity of documents provided by mining operators. OAU has applied for an exploration license to carry out legal activities, including exploration and research on mineral resources within its campus and across the country.
