European Union's General Court rejects Pablo Escobar trademark registration due to association with drug trafficking, crime, and human suffering.
The European Union's General Court has ruled that the name of notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar cannot be registered as an EU trademark. The court upheld the decision of the EU's Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) which rejected an application by Escobar Inc. to register the term "Pablo Escobar" as a trademark. The court found that the name is associated with drug trafficking, crime, and human suffering and should not be given protection under intellectual property laws.
