Disability support provider LiveBetter fined $1.8m for inadequate staff training, resulting in an Indigenous woman's death from burns.

Disability support provider LiveBetter has been fined $1.8m for serious shortfalls in staff training that led to a vulnerable Indigenous woman dying from burns after being given a bath. Kyah Lucas suffered 35-40% burns when bathed at her home in Orange, NSW, by two NDIS workers on 2 February 2022. The 28-year-old died five days later in a Sydney hospital. The Federal Court ordered LiveBetter, the largest disability services provider in regional NSW, to pay the $1.8m penalty.
