Cork County Councillor Gerard Murphy, Fine Gael member and former Dáil representative, passed away.

Cork County Councillor Gerard Murphy, a long-serving public representative and Fine Gael member, has died. First elected to Cork County Council in 1992, he served as Cathaoirleach from 1995-96 and was later elected to the Dáil for Cork North West from 2002-07. He returned to local politics representing Kanturk Mallow Municipal District and the Southern Regional Assembly.
