Air New Zealand has chosen Wellington and Marlborough Airports as the bases for its first all-electric aircraft, the battery-powered ALIA CTOL from Beta Technologies. The airline will initially operate a cargo-only service in partnership with NZ Post, starting in 2026. Wellington Airport will serve as the home base, while Marlborough Airport will establish charging infrastructure for the aircraft's return journey.
