2023 saw a record 50% increase in global wind power capacity installations, with 117 gigawatts added, according to the Global Wind Report published by the Global Wind Energy Council. China led all countries in both new onshore and offshore wind installations, followed by the US, Brazil, and Germany. The wind industry must increase its annual growth to at least 320 gigawatts by 2030 to meet global climate goals and the COP28 pledge to triple installed renewable energy generation capacity by 2030. Africa and the Middle East installed nearly 1 gigawatt of wind power capacity in 2023, almost triple that of the previous year.
