Volkswagen Group Africa plans to invest R4bn in South Africa's Kariega plant to produce a compact SUV from 2027, with 40% local content.
Volkswagen Group Africa (VWA) plans to invest R4 billion in its Kariega manufacturing plant in South Africa's Eastern Cape to produce a third model, a compact SUV, from early 2027. The SUV will be manufactured on the same production line as the Polo and Polo Vivo and will have approximately 40% local content, with a R1.2 billion investment in local suppliers. VWA has invested over R10 billion in the Kariega plant since 2011.
