In Kansas City, the Chiefs and Royals spent $5.7 million to promote a stadium tax ballot measure, shattering the previous local record. Despite their campaign, the measure was defeated by a 58-42 margin on April 2, aiming to extend a 3/8th-cent sales tax for 40 years to fund stadium renovations and a new ballpark. Both teams are now considering their options, including leaving Jackson County when their leases expire.
